In most cases, the whole point of having a website is to attract new customers.
The main method to get your website more visible and seen by more people is to move it up the Google search rank by means of SEO, or search engine optimisation.
SEO can be broken down into 2 distinct areas, being on-page SEO and off-page SEO.
On-page SEO involves all the code and content on your website structured correctly to ensure your website is most easily interpreted by Google for the words you want to be found for. This step is critical and must be done correctly if you want to start ranking well in Google. If your website was built by Entice, on-page SEO will already be largely complete. You may still need a few adjustments to refine your site around certain words.
Off-page SEO includes creating content and links on external websites, that link back to your site. These are quite valuable in telling Google that you are a serious business, and can act like a vote to move you up the search rank.
Below you’ll find a list of free directories and websites that will give you greatest effect for your off-page SEO efforts. I would recommend every business to complete each of the below as a basis for their off-page SEO –
- Setup Google My Business, and link your website to your Google+ page. Setup link here – google.com.au/business/
- Setup a Facebook page for your business, and link your website to it – facebook.com/pages/create/
- The following free directory listings allow you to add your website URL and are great for getting Google to start taking notice of your new site. Make sure you fill out all the details and write good descriptions for your business. Here are the free signup pages for the leading Australian directories –
You may already have listings for some of the above. If so, make sure they are updated and current – especially make sure your website’s URL is listed.
Further steps
Start by moving your efforts to building your social media following on Facebook and Google+.
Also consider setting up a blog on your website. Make sure you write unique articles around topics in your industry that are likely to be searched for by people on Google. Don’t forget to cross link to your social media pages too!
Finally, customer reviews can be a fantastic way to build consumer confidence in your brand or product. Google Reviews & WOMO are a couple of the primary 3rd party reviews sites in Australia. Signup to Womo here – womo.com.au/signup
