If you have undertaken a search in Google lately, you may have noticed the term ‘Mobile Friendly’ now being included in the search results.
This is because Google is placing greater emphasis on websites that meet their requirements for mobile optimisation. Google has introduced a new algorithm that awards higher rankings to sites that have been optimised on mobile devices.
On April 21st, 2015, Google announced:
“We will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimised for their devices.”
If your website is not mobile-friendly, meaning your site is not responsive to different screen sizes, properly configured and viewable on multiple device types, Google will now be effectively penalising your search ranking. Given that more than 35% of search traffic (across the websites that Easy Peas manage) come from smartphones, we think this is a good move by Google!
